Acrewood Philosophy

The Acrewood Way

At Acrewood Day Nursery, we believe in the power of play. We are committed to preserving the magic of childhood by allowing the children’s natural curiosity and sense of wonder to nurture them and their interest in the world around them. At Acrewood, we teach the children how to think, not what to think and we foster their natural aptitudes and interests in order to build confidence and problem solving, social development and enthusiasm for learning.

At Acrewood, we don’t believe in classrooms, there is fascination all around and a magic in the freedom of expression when you’re little – it is something that we cherish and delight in; watching little faces light up with intrigue and curiosity.

About Acrewood Day Nursery

For the best start in life

Acrewood Day Nursery is unique in so many ways. Set in a large converted country house on the outskirts of St Helier, Acrewood is nestled within over 2 acres of magical woodland, providing ample opportunity for imaginative outdoor play. The large house and grounds mean that the children have plenty of space with well equipped, different areas and rooms for different age groups and purpose. Since opening in 2002, Acrewood has built a great reputation for providing an enriching and nurturing environment, giving children the confidence to explore, express themselves, and make new friends, preparing them for ‘big school’ and the wide world beyond.

Acrewood Day Nursery was started by Kirsty Haslehurst and is a family run business that employs over 21 members of staff, including a cook, who lovingly prepares the nursery’s daily snacks from seasonal, local produce – the banana muffins are a firm (but fluffy) favourite! Balancing action packed pursuits with peaceful play, Acrewood offers a wide variety of recreational and educational activities to keep little minds busy and balanced. Cookery, music, ICT, creative arts and PE are all undertaken through play and adult led activity with the main focus on fun.

Acrewood day nursery is committed to safe guarding and promoting the welfare of children.

At Acrewood, we simply love what we do.

Our team of staff at Acrewood are all highly trained and qualified. All staff are first aid trained and have DBS clearance. We are a highly motivated team, here to support our families in any way that we can. We all attend regular training sessions, visit other nurseries to observe best practice and we all constantly strive to offer our children the best experience at preschool. Or fantastic team is made up of some 21 people, which ensures a good ratio of children and adults. Each and every member of the Acrewood staff add a little something extra to the homely and fun environment we’ve created… We’d love to introduce you to everyone, but we simply don’t have enough space here!
